848 Mini Coopers Parade on Mackinac Bridge, But Fail to Win World Record

MACKINAW CITY, Mich. (AP) -- The parade of small cars that crossed the Mackinac Bridge was large, but fell short of setting a Guinness World Records mark.

State Transportation spokesman James Lake says 848 Mini Coopers made the five-mile, one-way crossing Saturday morning from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace.

Officials have said the current record mark for a Mini Cooper parade of 1,450 cars was set in 2009.

Drivers of the Mini Coopers gathered on the Lower Peninsula side of the bridge before setting out for the Upper Peninsula side.

The event involved the Mackinac Bridge Authority, a Mini dealership from Grand Rapids and owners of the small cars.
