Exclusive: Rotting rats, filth fill 'Hoarding' house

By Ree Hines

Regular viewers of "Hoarding: Buried Alive" have seen homes overrun with piles of clutter, thousands of roaches and well, even more roaches. But on the next episode of the docu-series, they'll see just how far things can go.

As an exclusive sneak TLC provided to TODAY.com reveals one woman's home is filled with filth, cobwebs and worst of all, rotting rats.

Faye, like many hoarders on the show, hid her struggle and didn't allow family in her house for years. After realizing that the mess, in conjunction with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, could be killing her, Faye invited her daughters to help her and to see the extent of problem for themselves.

"Dead, rotted rats -- big, dead, rotted rats," one daughter said after she and her sister discovered the partially decayed rodents. "Absolutely breaks my heart that our mother lives this way. Absolutely makes me want to get busy and get this done."

When confronted, Faye denied knowing anything about the rats.

"You didn't know you had dead rats?" the daughter asked skeptically. "Your kitchen has dead rats. Your bedroom has dead rats. Nobody should ever have to live this way -- nobody."

After taking it all in, she added, "If mom refuses to clean, then I'm going to have to call some authorities."

See if Faye changes her ways when "Hoarding: Buried Alive" airs Sunday night at 9 p.m. on TLC.
