Action Comics 1 sells for $2.16 million in auction (AP)

PHILADELPHIA ? A rare and pristine copy of Action Comics has set a record for highest price paid for a comic book, selling for more than $2 million in an online auction.

Neither the name of the buyer nor seller was disclosed for the issue put up for auction on http://www.comicconnect.com Nov. 11. Bidding for the comic, which is graded at 9.0, opened at just $1 but had a reserve of $900,000, far more than the 10 cents it sold for when published in 1938.

The issue, which was sold Wednesday, sold for $2.16 million and had 50 separate bids. It had its own unique story, too, having been reported stolen in 2000 only to be recovered in April inside a storage shed in California, undamaged.
