?After a few rounds of recruiting for our internship program with the standard cover letter and resume, we realized that it was hard for us to get to know our candidates based on their resumes. Cover letters told us a lot more about our candidates,? says Alli Blum, UBB?s Director of Marketing and Internship Coordinator. ?So we just decided to leave resumes out of the recruiting process.?

?My original goal in life was to become a schoolteacher, and teaching is something that I?ve always been passionate about,? says Brian Linton, the company?s Founder and Chief Trash Collector. Interns work alongside Linton at UBB in the company?s Philadelphia open-floor plan office, and the chain of command is a two-way street. not only do interns have access to company leadership, but company leadership appreciates having access to them. ?Many of our most successful projects have been conceived of and developed by interns, and we learn from them as much as they learn from us,? says Linton.
?Another critical part of the program is the exit interview process. It?s an opportunity for the interns to get feedback on their performance, and for us to learn how we can improve the program. we had a really strong summer class, and we?re looking forward to incorporating their feedback into future programs,? says Blum.
Though the green revolution may be in full force, a large percentage of the so-called green jobs still require industry and engineering experience. For the humanities student with a passion for the environment, building a career path in the green sector can be a tough path to navigate.
