Today is the first day after the successful LFW project that I can share links on Facebook and Twitter again.
Funny thing is now that I?m free to link it up I?m not sure where to start.
The link free week project has been a great experiment and I?m looking forward to repeating it?in the future. It was great to have a few Twitter friends a bloggers join me in an effort to be (mostly) link free for the whole week. Checkout our Twitter list here.
Read before you share
It really altered how I consumed online content like blogs and articles. Instead of scanning a post for tweetable sound bites or sharing without even reading (guilty) I would read more selectively and take time to digest the author?s message. I already knew some talented bloggers out there, but they really do have some rich content I was missing.
Put down the megaphone
LFW also changed how I approach social media in the first place. Instead of being a channel for ?shouting? links thru a megaphone to the masses it really is an amazing tool to connect with people and spark conversation. I often opened Facebook and twitter looking for recent updates/tweets from people I knew so that we could interact real-time. If anything I was more active on social media during LFW than normal.
Striving for originality
LFW was a great opportunity to ask questions and challenge my creativity. While RT?ing tweets that were significant to me was permitted most of my content had to be original. All in all it was a lot of fun.
A few tweeps and fellow bloggers joined me in the social media experiment as well.
Questions: Have you ever taken a break from social media? Do you think Facebook and Twitter are flooded with too many links?
P.S. I?m serious about doing this in the future (maybe every few months) so if you?re interested in joining #LFW let me know and I?ll add you to the Twitter list.
